Frequently Asked Questions

Web Site Design

  • Every client has different needs, and all custom web sites vary in degrees of difficulty. Some clients are extremely detail oriented while others are just looking for functionality. Because of this, all work is done at an hourly rate (with half the estimated cost up front and remainder upon completion).

Most sites range between $750-$4000. The more accurately you can describe your needs, the better I’ll be able to determine an estimate. If you have a budget in mind, I can also do my best to work within it.

  • Currently, I mainly work with Shopify for online stores and Squarespace for informational sites. In the past I have also worked with many others (such as Wordpress/WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Opencart and Wix). If you are using a platform not listed, just ask!

    1. Any existing branding (logo, fonts, color scheme) that you may already be using.

    2. A general direction as to what you’re looking for in a website.

    3. A handful of example sites that you like (and why you like them).

    4. Any other inspiration you think might be helpful.

Web Site Hosting

  • Simply put, a host is just a computer/server where your web site resides allowing people to visit/access it. All web sites on the internet require a host. The files/photos/information that make up your web site need to be available to everyone 24/7, and a web hosting company provides that service.

  • Most new sites I create for clients are hosted on Shopify and Squarespace platforms. They have larger support teams that take care of that part of the process.

I no longer host websites myself. If you already have a website and need to change hosts, I can help with that.

  • Great! If you have a website and host that you like but just want a visual refresh, I can help with that. Technical support is not offered for 3rd party hosts, but I can act as a go-between with your chosen host.

  • I highly recommend using Shopify for online stores and Squarespace for informational websites. If you are interested in either, please contact me first. I offer free unlimited trials for Shopify and free 6 month trials for Squarespace. If you are on a budget and have a limited number of products, Squarespace also offers a pretty good e-commerce solution.

Both companies take care of the hosting & shopping carts. This allows me to focus on creating websites for my clients, and for my clients to focus on their content/products/sales.

Photo Editing/Retouching

  • Absolutely! Cameras on phones have come a long way over the years. Many clients take their own photographs and have me edit/crop/retouch them if needed.

If I believe the quality of a photograph is poor (or feel I can’t edit it easily) I will always consult with the client. Similarly, if I have suggestions on how to make your photos better I will always share that information as well.

  • I started using Photoshop in the mid ‘90s with version 3.0 and continue to use it to this day.

Product Photography

  • Typically, I photograph small to medium-sized products that fit roughly in a 2’x2′ area. Jewelry, candles, packaged foods, toys, glassware… to name a few. I do not photograph larger products like clothing.

  • All products are shot on a white background/table. This allows the product to be the main focus piece of the photograph and doesn’t distract or clash with colors of your website or brochure. That said, if you have something else in mind, I’m open to suggestions.
